Audiology Services

Who uses Audiology Services?

Castle Medical Center’s Audiology Services offers a wide range of diagnostic testing and evaluation, and products for children, adults, and seniors. Our services can be used to assist physicians in their evaluation and diagnosis of many types of hearing disorders.

  • Children are often referred by pediatricians to test youngsters with ear infections or failed hearing screenings at school or elsewhere. (See Hearing Loss in Children.)
  • Speech therapists will request an audiology evaluation to rule out hearing disorders before proceeding with speech therapy.
  • General practitioners (internists or family practitioners) will request audiology services to evaluate patients who complain of gradually decreased hearing.
  • Ear, nose, and throat doctors refer to our Audiology Department for many varied complaints such as sudden hearing loss, dizziness, tinnitus, fullness, or blocked ears.
  • The State or the City and County will request an audiology evaluation when an employee, such as a policeman or firefighter, does not meet the requirements for hearing.
  • Industrial firms use our expert audiologists to develop or monitor ongoing industrial noise programs.
  • Friends or family may make a referral for themselves or a family member for any hearing concerns that need to be addressed.

Hearing Aids

In addition to testing and counseling patients about their hearing loss, hearing aids of almost any type and manufacturer can be obtained at CMC’s Audiology Clinic. Cost of the aids depends on the size (the smaller it gets, the more expensive it becomes) and on the circuitry (more advanced circuitry is higher in cost). The audiologist will discuss a patient’s options in full if he/she has enough hearing loss to try hearing aids. (See Types of Hearing Aids.) Every patient has a 30-day trial period to use the aids before deciding if he/she wants to keep them. As an audiology-based practice, this clinic’s utmost concern is with improving the patient’s hearing as much as possible. It is essential that the patient have realistic expectations for what a hearing aid can do.

Is a Doctor’s Referral Needed?

Yes, a referral is necessary in order for most insurance plans to cover the cost of hearing testing. Upon your request, your physician can fax a referral to Castle’s Audiology Clinic at (808) 263‑5058.
